SUPPORT YOUR TEAM, NOT AGAINST THE OTHER!

Children’s sport should be a place where children can enjoy themselves, make friends, learn, make mistakes and try again. A place where they develop a love for sport and create memories they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

However, especially in children’s leagues, we sometimes unconsciously forget that the players on the pitch are children, not professionals. Adults’ expectations can become excessive — expecting a child to win, score a goal, be the best or become “the next star”. Yet these very expectations can create pressure, tension and an unnecessary atmosphere around the game.

That is why this message is not intended for children alone. It is also addressed to us adults — parents, coaches, teachers and everyone involved in children’s sport.

Support your team, not against the other!

Encourage children instead of putting them under additional pressure.

Respect the referees, coaches and opposing team.

When a child makes a mistake, help them get back up instead of making them afraid of making another one.

Applaud good play, regardless of which team it comes from.

Because no result, no goal and no victory is more important than a child’s happiness and love for sport.

Our responsibility as adults is to create an environment where every child feels safe, accepted and encouraged to give their best.

The Federation of School Sports of North Macedonia sincerely thanks IDEAL SPORT for donating jerseys carrying messages promoting fair and respectful sportsmanship. This initiative represents another important step towards raising awareness of fair play, mutual respect and responsible behaviour on the sports field.
